'GIRL GENIUS' wins Hugo Award for best graphic story

"Adventure. Romance. MAD PROPS!"

For the second straight year, the World Science Fiction Society is offering its congrats to "Girl Genius," again bestowing upon the stellar "gaslamp fantasy" comic the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story.

This year's win is for the series's ninth volume: "Agatha Heterodyne and the Heirs of the Storm," by Kaja and Phil Foglio and Cheyenne Wright. Last year, "Girl Genius's" eighth volume won the inaugural award in this category.

The "mad scientist" comic, centered on Agatha the Transylvania Polygnostic University student, launched in 2001 and migrated online four years later as a webcomic.

The other Graphic Story nominees were:

"Batman: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?" Neil Gaiman, Andy Kubert, Scott Williams (DC Comics).
"Captain Britain And MI13. Volume 3: Vampire State Written": Paul Cornell, Leonard Kirk with Mike Collins, Adrian Alphona and Ardian Syaf (Marvel Comics).
"Fables Vol 12: The Dark Ages": Bill Willingham, Mark Buckingham; Art by Peter Gross & Andrew Pepoy, Michael Allred, David Hahn, Lee Loughridge & Laura Allred, Todd Klein (Vertigo Comics).
"Schlock Mercenary: The Longshoreman of the Apocalypse": Howard Tayler.
