Ted Kennedy: A Life Remembered Through Political Cartoons

Over decades in Congress, Ted Kennedy was a friend to the afflicted, the downtrodden, the huddled masses yearning for a good idea. In other words, in this case: America's political cartoonists.

From triumphs to tragedies, Kennedy -- who cartoonists have memorialized this week -- has been a cartoon stalwart, a caricature that political artists had to master.
Some cartoonists were often laudatory; others delighted in depicting him as a bloated chipmunk double-clutching drink and lingerie (no one said political cartooning wasn't cruel).

To reflect on how Kennedy was drawn over the decades: At Boston.com, there's a slide show of 33 Kennedy political cartoons through a life lived in the headlines..

The cartoons drawn since his death also range from "liberal lion" memoriams to works that depict him as an angel who sports only a "left wing."

Here are several of the cartoons that caught my eye in recent days; if you've got one you like, feel free to share a link.
