WITH MARVEL’S “The Avengers” opening just days away, film followers knew it was D.C.’s move. And like clockwork, DC Entertainment/Warner Bros. dropped the official new trailer for that other ”most anticipated” superhero mega-flick of the year, “The Dark Knight Rises.”
.
All day, D.C. enticed viewers to put together social-media clues to the frames of the new trailer.
The viral scavenger hunt led to a file marked “Anonymous Vigilante Investigation.” Then the warrant to arrest “John Doe aka ‘The Batman’ ” and a memo from Gotham’s deputy police commissioner — all leading to film rolls for forensics.
The spliced-together frames led to a small, silent GIF, according to /Film and other sites.
The results: The storm is still coming, thanks to the Gotham reckoning courtesy of Bane (Tom Hardy). The adaptable Catwoman/ Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) and John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) must wait and wonder whether Batman/Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) is still alive. And Alfred (Michael Caine) says he’s seen too many members of the Wayne family die.
One other thing we also know: The trailer will hit theaters this weekend, to run conspicuously in front of “The Avengers.”
It’s your move, Marvel.
