TIGER TOONS: Cartoonists pull an irony out of their bag [UPDATED]

[Note: This Friday post was updated Saturday at 1:50 and 10 p.m.]

And now, a new wave of Tiger toons rolls in.

On-air commentators immediately began having their say after Tiger Woods's 14-minute video apology and statement this morning, in a wide range of reactions. CBS golf broadcaster David Feherty said he was impressed, noting of Woods: "I have never seen him appear so vulnerable" (according to the Associated Press). Former New York Yankee/PR man Rick Cerrone said: "What I saw was arrogance ... it was basically an infomercial." And ABC's George Stephanopoulos called the speech "one of the most remarkable public apologies ever by a public figure."

And The Post's Eva Rodriguez largely echoed Cerrone's sentiment: "You don't need an internationally televised apology to become a better man, a better husband, a better father -- the things he claims are most important to him. But you do need such a spectacle if you're going to remain a multi-billion dollar marketing machine. And that's what this pathetic display was all about."

Now we wait for the nation's topical cartoonists to strike their shots. We'll update this blogpost with more cartoons in the day ahead. So far, Bob Englehart's cartoon is the most direct response we've seen to how Woods managed the would-be "press conference."

If you've got your own opinions to share, feel free to tee it up and fire away.
