Gingrich, ‘Dancing Queen’ and other Candidate Ringtones

See that girl! Watch that scene! (Evan Vucci - AP)
Newt Gingrich’s ringtone made headlines recently at an event in Nevada. Politico reporter Ginger Gibson wrote: “Gingrich’s cell phone then began ringing in his pocket, playing Dancing Queen by Abba. It was the full version, complete with words, and played the chorus twice before shutting itself off. He made no attempt to turn it off himself.”

This has happened before — as recently as May.

Before suggesting any ringtones for anyone else, I have to take a moment to congratulate Gingrich on this ringtone. This is brilliant. I would never have pegged him as the Abba candidate — much less the “Dancing Queen” candidate. Then again, catchy as “Waterloo” is, it probably sends the wrong message. And “Eye of the Tiger” is out of the question.

As someone whose ringtone is literally this, I am in no position to offer anyone ringtone advice.

But I’m not going to let that stop me.

Barack Obama: “Let’s Stay Together,” by Al Green, for obvious reasons.

Rick Santorum: “See My Vest”?

Ron Paul: “Goldfinger.” “Gold Digger”? “Heart of Gold”?

Mitt Romney: “Mr. Roboto” seems cruel, somehow. “Ice, Ice Baby”? How about “Tea Partay”?

And if Newt ever tires of Abba, there’s always “Mr. Know-It-All.” Or, heck, “(Party Like It’s) 1999.”

I’m sure you have better ideas! Lay them on me in the comments!
