Customs officers discovered more than 18 pounds of cocaine concealed in the cargo hold of a commercial flight at Dulles International Airport Wednesday, authorities said.
A drug-sniffing dog got a hit during a routine inspection of the Avianca Airlines plane, which had just arrived from Bogota, Columbia, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.
When officers investigated, they found seven packages taped behind a
cargo hold panel. The packages tested positive for cocaine. Authorities estimated the drugs had a street value of $580,000.
Customs officials did not announce any arrests in connection with the find, but said the investigation is ongoing.
