2 shot near Pr. George’s nightclub

Two people were shot near a Capitol Heights nightclub overnight, Prince George’s County police said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting near the MSG Nightclub, which is in the 7900 block of Central Avenue, around 2:45 a.m., police said. When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

The female victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition, while the male was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening wounds, police said.

No additional details were immediately available.

The Prince George’s County Council passed an emergency bill last month that imposed stringent requirements on dance halls and gave police and other officials broad authority to close nightclubs deemed a threat to public safety. At least six of the county’s homicides in 2011 have had links to nightclubs or dance halls.
