Arrest after alleged sex assault at No. Va. college campus

A Northern Virginia Community College student was grabbed and fondled by a man as she walked to her car on the school’s Alexandria campus, according to a spokeswoman for the college.

The victim was heading to her car on the upper level of the Dawes garage at about 2 p.m. Monday when it happened, said Jessica Baxter, the spokeswoman.

The student was not injured, Baxter said.

Shortly before 10 p.m. that night, campus police saw a suspect matching the victim’s description on the Alexandria campus and arrested him, Baxter said. The suspect, identified as Brandon T. Veney, 22, of no fixed address, was charged with assault and taken to the Alexandria detention center.

Veney is not a student at the school, authorities said. He was charged with sexual battery and assault on a law enforcement officer.

Baxter said police believe the incident is isolated.
