29 years for Va. woman who set deadly fire

RICHMOND, Va. — A homeless woman convicted of setting a fire in Richmond that killed another woman has been sentenced to 29 years in prison.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports 34-year-old Michelle Yvette Hampton was convicted and sentenced on murder and arson charges Wednesday in Richmond Circuit Court.

Prosecutors say Hampton set a fire last June in an abandoned home where her ex-boyfriend and 56-year-old Jacquelin Yvonne Anderson were sleeping. Anderson died of burns and smoke inhalation.

The ex-boyfriend escaped through a window.
