A third man is in police custody in connection with the fatal shooting of Alexandria activist Lenny Harris, and he is expected to be charged soon, law enforcement sources said.
Tyrone Lewis, 26, has been jailed in Virginia since late last year on larceny charges unrelated to Harris’s death, court records show. Lewis was the man caught on ATM surveillance camera using Harris’s bank card, law enforcement sources said.
Police are expected to announce charges against Lewis at a news conference this afternoon.
Harris, 53, went missing in September. A week and a half ago, his remains were found in a well on a long-vacant property in Fort Washington — very near where Lewis lives, court records show.
Police had already charged 20-year-old Ivan Newman and 49-year-old Linwood Johnson in connection with the slaying, which they have said was motivated by robbery. Police have said the men shot Harris, then dumped his body down the well.
