40-year sentences for 2 D.C. men in 2009 killing

Two D.C. men were sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing a man authorities say tried to help a friend after he was shot in Sept. 2009.

Aaron Andrews, 19, and Curtis Weeks, 18, were found guilty in May 2011 in the death of 20-year-old Reggie Cook.

The incident occurred about 10 p.m. in the 1100 block of Eaton Road SE. Andrews and Weeks tried to rob a group of men playing a dice game in a parking lot, authorities said.

Andrews shot one man as he ran, authorities said, and Cook was shot dead by Weeks when he intervened.

Weeks and Andrews were convicted of first-degree murder and other offenses, including armed robbery and gun offenses.
