Afternoon shooting near Anacostia Metro station

D.C. police are investigating a shooting less than a block from the Anacostia Metro station in Southeast.

Shortly after 4:15 p.m. Thursday, a male was shot in the 1100 block of Howard Road SE, said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman.

The victim was still conscious and breathing early Wednesday evening, according to Carew. There were conflicting reports on the victim’s age, Carew said, so it was not immediately clear whether the victim was a juvenile or an adult, Carew said.

On its Twitter feed, the department said they were seeking a 13- or 14-year-old male wearing a blue shirt and tan pants in connection with the shooting.

In a separate incident about an hour earlier, a man was found seriously wounded in the 600 block of Edgewood Street NE, Carew said. He was taken to a hospital with serious wounds, but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Post reporter Clarence Williams contributed to this item.
