Aide at Maryland School for the Deaf charged with sex abuse of minors

An aide at the Maryland School for the Deaf’s Columbia campus has been charged with inappropriately touching three girls when they were students at the school between 2008 and 2010, police said.

According to the Howard County Police, Clarence Cepheus Taylor, 37, of Baltimore County, was arrested Thursday at his home and charged with three counts of felony sexual abuse of a minor.

A statement released by the school’s superintendent referred questions to the police. “This is an ongoing investigation being handled by the Howard County Police, and [Maryland School for the Deaf] is not at liberty to comment on this case,” the statement said.

The girls told authorities Taylor touched them multiple times while they were overnight students at the school and he was an evening shift dorm aide.

Authorities said one of the girls — they are now 15 and 16 and attend another school — recently reported the incidents and are now investigating whether there were additional victims.

According to police, the girls said the touching took place when the girls were between 10 and 13 year old.

The Columbia campus of the Maryland School for the Deaf has 120 students between pre-kindergarten to eighth grade, most of them day students.
