Billy Ray Allen dies in Franconia car crash

An Alexandria man was killed Sunday morning when he lost control of his car and crashed on a Franconia road, Fairfax County police said.

Billy Ray Allen, 65, of the 5500 block of Justis Place, was headed eastbound on Franconia Road around 9:30 a.m. when he crossed the double yellow line near the intersection of Norton Road, police said.

Allen’s Infiniti J30 passed another vehicle and then re-entered the eastbound traffic lane. Allen then lost control of the vehicle and traveled back into the westbound lane of Franconia Road, striking a Cadillac, police said.

The Infiniti continued onto the gravel shoulder and into a culvert, where it struck several large rocks and flipped over, police said.

Allen was transported to a local hospital where he later died, police said. The investigation is ongoing, but police believe speed was a factor in the crash.
