Alexandria man charged with involuntary manslaughter for Christmas Eve crash

Arlington police arrested a 21-year-old man Wednesday on charges he drove through a red light and caused an accident that killed a Nokesville woman who was standing on a sidewalk Christmas Eve, officials said.

Authorities charged Farhan M. Khan, of Alexandria with involuntary manslaughter in the Dec. 24 death of 30-year-old Shabnam Motahhar-Tehrani. Officials said Khan ran a red light and struck another vehicle at the intersection of North Glebe Road and North Randolph Street about 4:30 that afternoon, which caused Khan’s vehicle to skid onto a sidewalk and fatally strike Motahhar-Tehrani.

She died that night at Inova Fairfax hospital.

Khan was held without bond Wednesday, officials said. If convicted, the involuntary manslaughter charge carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
