Arrest in connection with Saturday D.C. shooting

A Buffalo, N.Y., man has been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting that took place near Howard University Saturday evening, authorities said.

Terry Jimenez, 19, will be arraigned Monday on charges of second-degree murder in connection to the death of Robert Foster Jr., Police Chief Cathy Lanier said at a Monday press conference. Jimenez was also shot during the incident, police said.

The shooting occurred Saturday on Gresham Place NW near Georgia Avenue, a thoroughfare where thousands of residents were participating in or watching this weekend’s Caribbean Festival parade. Police have said the the shooting was not connected to the festival or the university.

Lanier said Saturday’s shooting was an instance of gang violence. She added that Jimenez was present at a previous shooting but declined to comment further on it.

Foster, 43, lived in Northwest Washington, police have said.
