Arrest, murder charge in Saturday shooting death

A 21-year-old was arrested Wednesday in a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend in Northwest Washington, police said.

Michael E. Jones, 30, of Northwest, was found bleeding from a gunshot wound near 7th Street and Rhode Island Avenue NW shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police said. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital. A second shooting victim was treated at a hospital and released.

The alleged gunman, Joseph Peoples, who lives in Northeast Washington, was arrested by members of a fugitive task force and charged with second-degree murder, police said.
