Leesburg police searched a Plaza Street residence Tuesday afternoon in connection to an earlier incident involving multiple shots fired at a tow truck driver in Leesburg, according to authorities.
The driver was not wounded in the incident, which occurred about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on Plaza Street, police said.
After the search Tuesday, authorities announced a misdemeanor charge against Jonathan A. Cowden, 25, of Leesburg, who was wanted for removing a serial number from a firearm.
Shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Cowden turned himself in to Leesburg police, authorities said. Cowden will also be charged with possession of a stolen firearm, according to police.
Earlier, during the search, detectives also discovered a ballistic vest, military-style body armor, military tracer rounds and other items that are believed to have been stolen from an FBI-issued vehicle in Fairfax County in February, according to police.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing. Members of the public with information about the case are asked to contact the Leesburg police department.
