Baltimore woman killed in Anne Arundel car crash

An 81-year-old woman was killed in a car crash in Anne Arundel County on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the crash happened around 1:15 p.m., when a vehicle in which the woman was a passenger left Fort Smallwood Road, near Green Acres Road, in Pasadena and struck a tree.

The driver, 49-year-old Gloria Ann Guthrie of Baltimore, and her passenger, Catherine May Guthrie, 81, of Baltimore, were trapped in the car and had to be removed by fire department personnel, police said.

Gloria Guthrie was taken to Johns Hopkins Trauma Center with critical but non-life threatening injuries.

Catherine Guthrie, who was seated on the side of the car that struck the tree, was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she later died from her injuries, police said.

Police said no other vehicles were involved in the crash and neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors. The crash remains under investigation.
