A bicyclist was struck by a car and seriously injured in Northwest Washington Tuesday afternoon in what police described as a hit-and-run incident.
The collision occurred about 5 p.m. in the 3500 block of 16th Street NW in the Mount Pleasant area.
Police said the man who had been riding the bike was taken to a hospital. A preliminary report said he was unconscious when authorities arrived on the scene.
Traffic on 16th Street in that area was shut down for hours while police investigated.
