Fire damages shuttered D.C. school

A raging fire broke out late Monday in the building that once housed the Webb Elementary School in Northeast Washington, authorities said.

The fire broke out a little after 11 p.m. at the building in the 1300 block of Mt. Olivet Road.

The school was closed in 2008. Officials called a meeting earlier this year to hear public comments on proposals to designate the building as surplus property.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
