Fire officials in Prince George’s County are investigating the discovering of a body inside an Upper Marlboro home following an overnight fire.
Officials said the fire broke out in a home in the 15000 block of Buck Lane sometime around 2 a.m.
The house was abandoned and appeared to be vacant, officials said.
Firefighters knocked down most of the blaze from outside the home in about 45 minutes. When crews went inside to put out remaining hot spots, they discovered the body, officials said.
Mark Brady, a Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department spokesman, said that at least preliminarily, investigators had not found any evidence to suggest the fire was suspicious. He said firefighters had assumed the home was vacant, though investigators found some evidence it had been occupied by a homeless person or homeless people.
Those investigators, Brady said, were still working to determine what sparked the fire and exactly who the person was whose body was found.
