A Fairfax County man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the 2011 killing of his roommate, according to court documents.

Calvin Johnson, 49, of the Alexandria section of Fairfax County pleaded guilty this month in the stabbing death of Kenneth J. Russell, 55, as part of a deal with prosecutors, according to court records.

Under the terms of the plea deal, Johnson will receive a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.

Johnson called police Jan. 31, 2011, and told them that he had killed the man he shared an apartment with in the 7900 block of Audobon Avenue, according to a search warrant.

When officers arrrived at the scene, they found Russell dead of multiple stab wounds, police said. Johnson was taken into custody and later charged with murder.
