2 injured in Largo Metro carjacking: Official

A woman was shot and a man injured during an armed robbery that turned into a carjacking at the Largo Town Center Metro station Wednesday morning, a Metro spokesman said.

Few details were immediately available, but four suspects apparently approached the pair in the station’s parking garage around 7:15 a.m., said Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.

During the confrontation, the woman was shot in the hip, Stessel said. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The man was struck in the head with a handgun, officials said. Neither person was in their car at the time.

The suspects then fled in two vehicles, one of which was believed to belong to the man and woman, according to Stessel. Police recovered the stolen vehicle a short time later, he said, but the suspects remain at large, Stessel said.

Metro police and authorities from other jurisdictions are conducting a search for the men. Police are also searching the recovered vehicle for clues, according to Stessel.

The man and the woman were transported to the hospital, Stessel said.

The incident briefly closed one level of the parking garage, but it did not affect Metrorail or Metrobus service. The parking garage has since reopened.
