Convicted murderer charged with Md. jail escape attempt

SNOW HILL, Md. — A man awaiting sentencing on a first-degree murder conviction has been accused of trying to escape from a Maryland jail.

According to charging documents, on July 12, 20-year-old Justin Michael Hadel, of College Station, Texas, removed a foot-long hinge from an observation window at the Worcester County jail and used it to pry open a security window casing.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports the charging documents were filed on Tuesday.

Hadel was convicted last month in the 2007 slaying of 26-year-old Christine Marie Sheddy. Her skeletal remains were found in February of 2010 on the grounds of a bed and breakfast in Snow Hill.

Hadel is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on Sept. 9. He could be sentenced to life without possibility of parole.
