A 36-year-old inmate of the D.C. jail has been charged with first-degree murder in a 2010 shooting, authorities said Saturday.
Chamontae Walker, who had been jailed on an unrelated matter, was about to be released Friday night when guards told him that they had a warrant for his arrest in the shooting of Darrel Hendy.
Hendy, 29, was shot several times on Sept. 25 in the 800 block of Southern Avenue SE.
Walker was the second man arrested in Hendy’s murder. In October, police arrested Meeko Carraway, on a charge of first-degree murder for allegedly shooting Hendy. Witnesses told police that Carraway and Hendy were arguing in the street shortly before Hendy was shot, according to a police affadavit. Witnesses also told police that more than one person fled from the scene into a nearby apartment building.
