D.C. man arrested, charged with slaying in Northeast

A 20-year-old D.C. man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Northeast Washington last month, police said.

Jekwan Dante Smith of Southeast is charged with killing 24-year-old Isaiah Sheffield of Northeast.

The slaying occurred about 1:45 a.m. Sept. 24, in the 1100 block of 21st Street NE.

Police found Sheffield lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Smith has been charged with first-degree murder. Police did not release a motive in the shooting.
