A man was shot and killed in Southeast Washington early Sunday morning. Officers responded to gunfire in the 3400 block of Croffut Place, just off Minnesota Avenue, soon after midnight.
The victim was identified as Angelo Alphonso Payne, 23, of Southeast Washington.
After being found he was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Police said Sunday evening that they knew of no motive and had not identified a suspect. They said they are still investigating the circumstances of the killing, believed to be the city’s 88th of the year.
