D.C. police identify victim, release sketch of suspect in fatal gas station shooting

Police have identified the victim in a fatal shooting in Northeast D.C. as a 24-year-old Maryland man.

Stephon Emmanuel Way of Upper Marlboro was found in a car at a gas station in the 4500 block of Benning Road NE shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday.

He was suffering from a gunshot wound, police said, and was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. A second victim, a 16-year-old girl from Southeast D.C., was also shot in the car. She was transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Police released an artist’s sketch of the suspect, based on witness accounts. He is described as a black man in his mid-20s, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall, about 160 pounds, with shoulder-length dread locks and a light mustache and beard.

The man was last seen wearing a red coat, blue pants and a red shirt. Police said the suspect was carrying a dark-colored handgun and was driving a silver Ford Focus.
