D.C. police investigate body found in Northeast

District police are trying to determine how an unidentified woman ended up dead in front of a seafood wholesaler Wednesday morning a block off New York Avenue in Northeast Washington.

Police said the body was found a few minutes before 5 a.m. in the 1900 block of Fenwick St. NE, near Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Authorities did not say who found the body; though police did say it does not appear to be connected to the market. A large nightclub is located a block away; a representative of the nightclub said it wasn’t open Tuesday night.

D.C. Officer Araz Alali, a police spokesman, said only that the body was that of an adult woman. Police released no other description, and said she was pronounced dead on the scene.

A cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
