Dead, injured dogs found in trash can

A severely injured dog and a dog that had died were found in a trash can in an alley in Southeast Washington, the Washington Humane Society said.

The dogs were found Sunday in a can in an alley behind the 3900 block of R Street, humane society officials said.

The injured female dog was paralyzed, and could not be saved, the humane society said. Officials said it was humanely euthanized.

The dog found dead , also female, had a swollen front right leg, and what appeared to be bite marks were found on the leg, the officials said. It had a crescent-shaped scar on its rear right outer thigh.

The humane society asked for information that could lead to whoever was responsible. It said it was offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
