Deadly morning shooting in Northeast D.C.

A 23-year-old transgender person was fatally shot in the District early Wednesday, police said.

The victim, identified by authorities as Myles Mclean of Northeast Washington, was gunned down shortly before 4:30 a.m. in the 6100 block of Dix Street NE. Homicide investigators were still trying to determine the motive for the killing.

Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s office said Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier briefed city officials, including Jeffrey D. Richardson, head of the mayor’s Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs, about the slaying.

“At this time, [police] officials say they have no information to indicate that this is a hate crime,” Gray’s office said in a statement. “However, it is very early in the investigation.
