District man sentenced to 35 years in prison for Columbia Heights dice game murder

A District man was sentenced Friday to 35 years in prison for killing a man during a dice game in Park View five years ago, the U.S. attorney said.

A jury convicted Gerald Anderson, 22, of first degree murder while armed and another firearm offense in April for killing David Mayo, during a dice game after midnight in an apartment complex courtyard in the 600 block of Park Road NW, officials said.

They said Anderson and his accomplices fired multiple rounds at Mayo, after which Anderson approached Mayo and shot Mayo as he lay on the ground, killing him.

Anderson was arrested and charged in October 2010.
