District police investigate Prince George’s car fire as homicide

What began as an investigation into an early morning car fire in Prince George’s County has been handed over to D.C. police, who are investigating the case as a homicide that took place in the District.

The body of 34-year-old Antwain Henderson, of Capitol Heights, was found in a burning car in the county’s Landover area shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 31.

Police reported that the body was badly burned and the car — abandoned in the 5600 block of Jefferson Heights Drive, at the corner of Cypresstree Drive in Fairmount Heights — was so badly damaged that it was impossible to tell what type of vehicle it was beyond a “standard” sedan-type.

In a news release, Prince George’s County police announced Tuesday that Henderson died before, not during, the fire. Additionally, they said, investigators believe that Henderson was killed in the District and then moved into Prince George’s County.

As a result, Prince George’s County police have handed over the investigation to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Investigators ask that anyone with information about this case call the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call 1-888-919-CRIME (2746) or text messaging 50411.
