District woman pleads guilty to check fraud

A 43-year-old District woman admitted Monday in Alexandria’s federal court that she used more than 1,000 counterfeit or fraudulent checks to purchase merchandise at Washington-area retailers, court records show.

Astorcia Gilmore pleaded guilty to wire fraud and identity theft charges.

Prosecutors said her scam lasted from 2002 through June of this year and cost retailers and other companies more than $120,000.

She is scheduled to be sentenced in October.
