Driver sought in fatal hit-and-run in Anne Arundel County

A man who was thrown from a truck in an accident in Anne Arundel County was then struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash, authorities said Tuesday morning.

Maryland State Police reported that a truck was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 97 at Benfield Boulevard around 3:15 a.m. The truck overturned, and both the driver and the passenger were ejected, officials said.

The passenger, who ended up in the southbound lanes, apparently stood up. He was then struck by an oncoming vehicle that did not stop.

The man, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The driver of the truck taken to a local hospital for treatment. No details about his condition were available.

Police are now searching for the driver of the striking vehicle. Authorities don’t have a description of the car, but anyone who witnessed the crash can call 410-761-5130.
