Driver struck, killed after exiting her car on McLean roadway

A driver was fatally hit by a pumper truck Monday afternoon after getting out of her car near a busy intersection in McLean, Fairfax County police said.

The woman was driving eastbound on Leesburg Pike when she exited her car near Spring Hill Road around 1:07 p.m., police said. She was then struck by a truck that was also headed eastbound.

Police said they do not know why she got out of the car.

The woman’s identity will not be released until her next of kin have been notified, according to police.

Police did not say if the driver of the pumper truck was injured in the collision or if the driver will be charged.
