Fatal Beltway crash snarls traffic

A fiery car crash on the Capital Beltway in Chevy Chase has left at least one person dead and the Inner Loop shut down indefinitely, officials said Friday morning.

According to Montgomery County police, the accident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. when a car and a tractor trailer collided on the Inner Loop near the Connecticut Avenue exit.

The car burst into flames as a result of the crash. Police confirmed that one person is dead. Police have not said how many people were involved in the crash or their condition.

The fire has been extinguished, and as of 6:20 a.m., two lanes of the Inner Loop after Connecticut Avenue remain closed. The crash investigation is also blocking the right on- and off-ramps at the Connecticut Avenue exit.
