Fatal early morning crash closes Marlboro Pike in Prince George’s County

A fiery crash in Prince George’s County early Thursday has left one person dead and is expected to tie up traffic through rush hour, police said.

It happened about 3 a.m. in the 7100 block of Marlboro Pike in Forestville. Police said a car struck a utility pole near the Forest Village Park Mall before bursting into flames.

A passing motorist saw the car fire and called police. Prince George’s County firefighters extinguished the fire. One victim was found inside the mangled car.

The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not determined what caused the crash.

The police investigation has shut down Marlboro Pike in both directions between Loring Drive and Donnell Drive, and is expected to impact the morning rush hour.
