One person was killed and another was critically injured in an overnight crash in Montgomery County, police said.

The single-car accident happened about 1 a.m. Tuesday on Route 28 (Dickerson Road) at Mount Ephraim Road in Dickerson.

The female driver was pronounced dead at the scene and has not been identified pending notification of her family, county police said.

Police said the the passenger who remains in serious condition is Oscar Armando Chavez Martinez, 23, of the 12900 block of Boggy Trail Way in Germantown.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound in the 22200 block of Dickerson Road. The car left the road near the Mount Ephraim intersection and hit a stone railroad bridge overpass. The vehicle caught fire and witnesses were able to pull the passenger from the car before the Honda was engulfed by flames, police said.
