One student stabbed another during a fight in a dormitory at Marymount University on Friday night, sending an 18-year-old to a hospital with a wound to his abdomen, Arlington police said.

Francis J. Maguire, 20, of Burke was arrested after the incident and charged with malicious wounding, police said.

Emergency responders were called to the dormitory about 9:45 p.m., and when they arrived they found the victim lying in the hallway. Witnesses told them Maguire and the victim, who both lived in the dorm, got into an argument. Maguire allegedly tried to punch the victim and missed, which is when the victim punched Maguire, breaking his nose, police said.

Maguire then allegedly pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the victim, according to police.

Investigators also said they found narcotics on Maguire and plan to charge him with additional counts. He remains in custody at the Arlington jail.
