Former assistant principal sentenced to 5 years in child porn case

A former Fauquier County assistant principal who admitted receiving child pornography online was sentenced to five years in prison Friday.

According to court papers, Joshua Myers, 29, of Warrenton, came to the attention of authorities during an undercover investigation of people who were viewing and trading child pornography online. He was an assistant principal of Greenville Elementary School in Nokesville.

Myers, who was arrested at his home June 15, shared a password to folders on his computers that contained child pornography in an online chat with an undercover officer, according to court papers.

“While working as an elementary school administrator, Mr. Myers gathered a child-porn collection focused on the sexual abuse of young boys and included vile pictures of violent sexual assaults on small children,” Neil H. McBride, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, said in a statement Friday.

Judge Claude M. Hilton, who sentenced Myers in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, also ordered him to serve five years of supervised probation after his release from prison.
