Flash mob reported at Montgomery convenience store

About 50 people swarmed into a convenience store in Montgomery County over the weekend, and made off with snacks and drinks, the county police said.

The incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at a 7-Eleven store in the 12200 block of Tech Road in the Silver Spring area, the police said. Those involved included teenagers and young men and women, police said.

As part of their investigation, police said, they are trying to determine whether anyone involved was among those at a birthday party in the area. So far, no connection has been established, police said Monday night.

Police said they stopped six people in the Tech Road area after the incident, all of whom had items from the store. None had a receipt, police said.

Police said they obtained identifying information from them, but made no arrests.

The value of the items taken has not been determined, police said.

Police said they did not believe the incident was connected to one earlier this year in which a group of people took items from a convenience store in Germantown.
