Former Va. deputy charged in abduction to return to state

ROANOKE, Va. — Officials say the former Bedford County deputy sheriff captured in Kentucky after he fled morals charges will be returned to Virginia.

Forty-seven-year-old Ernest Grubbs appeared before a judge in Carter County, Ky., Monday morning.

Judicial secretary Susie Ginter tells the Roanoke Times that Grubbs waived extradition and will be brought back to Bedford County by Virginia State Police to face a dozen counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor.

Grubbs has been held at the Carter County Detention Center in Grayson, Ky., on an abduction charge since Kentucky state troopers captured him Wednesday on Interstate 64.

Authorities say the 16-year-old he’s accused of abducting has been returned to Virginia.
