Four dead in murder-suicide outside Charlottesville: police

Police are investigating the deaths of four people in an incident at a residence in Albemarle County.

Sgt. Darrell Byers said police found three of the victims inside the residence on Stony Point Road after responding to a 911 call around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday. The fourth person was taken to an area hospital, where they were pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Media outlets report that the victims are two males and two females and the suspect is believed to be among the dead. Police have confirmed the incident was a murder-suicide. Authorities are not saying how they died but Byers says a firearm was involved in the incident.

The victims’ identities haven’t been released. Neighbors told WVIR-TV that the house was being rented by a mother and her three children.

Police said the incident is isolated and there’s no threat to the community.

“It’s pretty devastating,” said Barbara Capron, who lives down the road from where the deaths occurred but did not know the victims. “I’ve lived on Stony Point Road all my life — that’s been 63 years — and I don’t remember anything like this ever happening.”
