Frederick Co. town approves youth curfew

MIDDLETOWN, Md. — Middletown officials have approved a new curfew in an effort to counter late-night vehicle and home break-ins believed to be the work of teenagers.

The Frederick News-Post reports the curfew was approved unanimously this week and takes effect Dec. 18. It begins at 12:01 a.m. and applies to people younger than 18.

The law has several exceptions, including when a youth is accompanied by a parent or is directly going to or returning home from a town event or activity with a school or religious organization. It also exempts youths returning home from a movie, sporting event or legal job.

Violators of the curfew will be guilty of a municipal infraction, and their parents will be subject to fines in accordance with the town’s code.
