FREDERICK, Md. — The Frederick Board of Aldermen is considering a proposed contract with the city police union that delays a 4 percent wage increase until 2012.
The board was set to discuss the tentative, 2-year deal Thursday night.
Mayor Randy McClement and the president of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 91 announced the proposed deal Monday. City police have been working under terms of a contract that expired in July.
McClement had long maintained that the city couldn’t afford raises this year for police officers. Other city workers have gone three years without raises.
The proposed contract delays until July 1 a 4 percent step increase that would have taken effect this year.
Local FOP President Charlie Snyder told The Frederick News-Post the agreement is fair and reasonable for both sides.
