Friday funeral for Va. deputy killed in traffic stop wreck

CHARLES CITY, Va. — Funeral services are scheduled Friday for a Charles City County sheriff’s deputy who was killed in a wreck while responding to a traffic stop.

Deputy Michael C. Walizer’s cruiser ran off the side of Route 5 and struck a tree on March 31.

He was an 11-year law enforcement veteran who previously worked with the Newport News/Williamsburg and Richmond International Airport police departments and the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Samaria Baptist Church in Providence Forge.
