Fund established for family of boy killed in Va. crash

A fund to collect money to help the family of Brian Hernandez-Chavez, the 8-year-old boy who was killed by a drunken driver Sunday, has been established.

The fund was set up through the Alexandria Days Inn where Brian’s mother and grandmother work as housekeepers. The fund was created in response to an outpouring of inquiries from people who wanted to help the family.

An online donation page has been set up on the wepay web site.

Maria Chavez was walking home with her son, Brian Hernandez-Chavez, on Sunday afternoon when they were struck by a car at Duke Street near Interstate 395. Police say Victor Aldana, 22, was drunk when he drove off the road and hit them.

Brian died on the scene. His mother is still in the hospital with 14 fractures in her hips and legs. Brian’s father is trying to get here from Mexico for the funeral.
