Girl killed in Landover crash ID’d

Police have identified the 5-year-old fatally struck by a sport-utility vehicle in the Landover area of Prince George's County Tuesday afternoon as Kamari Woods, of Capitol Heights.

Woods was trying to cross Martin Luther King Jr. Highway near Fiji Avenue with her father and brother when she was struck about 2:30 p.m., said Cpl. Henry Tippett, a Prince George’s County police spokesman. Tippett said the family had made it to the median of the roadway and stopped, but the girl stepped out into traffic and was struck by an SUV traveling west. She was not in a crosswalk, Tippett said.

The girl was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said. The crash occurred about 2:30 p.m., authorities said.

Tippett said the initial investigation has not shown any fault on the part of the SUV driver. The incident, he said, was “just a tragic accident.”
